Electrotherapy is a treatment that involves electric or magnetic stimulation of the human body in a range of therapeutic applications including pain alleviation. It’s benefits includes : pain relief or modulation, reduce inflammation , improve circulation ,tissue healing, scar tissue remodelling, increase ROM, enhance muscle activation, decrease unwanted muscular activity, preservation of strength after injury or surgery and reduction or elimination of edema Available electrotherapy modalities includes: Transcutaneous Electrical stimulation, Interferential therapy, Neuromuscular stimulation , Wax bath therapy (superficial or deep), Cryotherapy and Ultrasound
Therapeutic exercise involves movement prescribed to correct impairments, restore muscular and skeletal function and/or maintain a state of well-being. The scientific evidence demonstrating the beneficial effects of exercise is indisputable, and the benefits of exercise far outweigh the risks in most adults. For most adults, an exercise program including aerobic, resistance, flexibility, and neuromotor exercise training is indispensable to improve and maintain physical fitness and health. Therapeutic exercise a core skills upon which the profession of physiotherapy is based. How does exercise differ from physical activity?. Physical activity refers to the contraction of skeletal muscle that produces bodily movement and requires energy. Exercise is a physical activity that is planned and is performed with the goal of attaining or maintaining physical fitness. Physical fitness is a set of traits that allows an individual to perform physical activity. Types of exercise may include: aerobic and endurance conditioning and reconditioning body mechanics training; breathing exercises; coordination exercises; developmental activities training; movement pattern training; neuromotor development activities training; neuromuscular education or reeducation; perceptual training; range of motion exercises and soft tissue stretching; relaxation exercises; strength, power, and endurance exercises.
Manual therapy, or manipulative therapy, is a physical treatment primarily used by a skilled physiotherapist to treat musculoskeletal pain and disability; It includes: Trigger point release , Myofascial release ,Spinal mobilization and manipulation , Manual lymphatic drainage , Mulligan Mobilization , Joint mobilization and manipulation ,Osteopathic manipulations High velocity thrust techniques (chiropractic) and Chest Mobilization Benefits includes: Reduce pain ,Increase joints mobility to stiff joints and range of motion , Improve tissue repair , Improving tissue stability and flexibility , Reduce soft-tissue inflammation , Reduce muscle tension , Induce relaxation and Facilitate movement and exercise therapy
Traction therapy aims to remove pain and to reduce pressure in nerve roots by increasing negative pressure in the spinal column using mechanical forces in the body to stretch muscles and to reduce the pressure caused in the spinal column by gravity. Factors that are known to influence the effects of traction therapy are the traction force, traction time, traction angle, treatment time, posture of the patient during treatment, etc.. Intermittent traction therapy (ITT) is a method in which the traction force and time are changed to make the therapy more effective. Intermittent traction helps to relieve pain by improving the circulation to the tissues and reduces the swelling of tissues. Gentle alternation of stretching and relaxation of the spinal column's soft tissue structures prevents the formation of adhesions.
Trigger point dry needling (TrP-DN), also referred to as intramuscular stimulation (IMS), is an invasive procedure in which an acupuncture needle is inserted into the skin and muscle. It is performed by skilled, trained physiotherapists, certified in the procedure. A thin monofilament needle penetrates the skin and treats underlying muscular trigger points for the management of neuro-musculoskeletal pain and movement impairments. -It is suggested that dry-needling reduces/removes nociceptive input from trigger points. - Dry-needling can restore muscle activation and strength as well as ROM. - Dry-needling decreases pain in patients with Chronic low back pain and in patients with hemiparetic upper limb post CVA
